Annual Lyrid Meteor Shower expected to Peak Tonight

It is the time for the annual Lyrid meteor shower. The meteor showers are expected to peak tonight and the skies would be clear to provide sky gazers perfect view to watch the colorful lights of the Lyrid Meteor shower.

The Lyrid meteor shower takes place every mid-April when earth passes through a collection of dust left over from the comet Thatcher. Generally, one can see 10 to 20 meteors per hour, but there have been instances when burst was up to 100. Lyrid meteor shower has been observed for more than 2,600 years.

The radiant point is near the constellation Lyra, which will in the northeastern sky around midnight. Experts have suggested that the best place to view the meteor shower is around Philadelphia. It should be made sure that the viewing places should be away from the Center City lights and preferably an open field from where people can the entire sky.

If you do not want to be out in the night, there is always an option to check out NASA's live stream of the meteor shower. The best chance to view the show would be after 10.30 pm and it would be the time when the meteor shower will be at its peak.
