Texas rolls out single-sticker system for vehicle registration/inspection
On Sunday, March 1, a new system for vehicle stickers was rolled out in Texas --- the single-sticker system for registration and inspection of vehicles.
The new single-sticker system introduced in Texas combines the registration sticker and vehicle inspection sticker into one. The move follows the passage of House Bill 2305 during the 83rd legislative session.
With the new single-sticker system having come into effect on March 1, Texas will stop issuing an inspection sticker for vehicles. As a result of the change, the motor vehicle registration sticker will serve as a proof of registration as well as inspection of a vehicle. The new system will not bring about any change in the cost of registration renewal or vehicle inspection.
The switch to the single-sticker system in Texas means that the familiar blue-bordered registration sticker will now indicate that a vehicle is road-ready, since the state will stop issuing the green, blue or purple inspection stickers. However, owners will still have to get their vehicles inspected at state-approved facilities.
About the new single-sticker system introduced in Texas for vehicle registration and inspection, Harris County Tax Assessor Mike Sullivan said: "We realize this is going to be a change, but in the long run it's going to be a good thing... Cleaner air. Less fraud."
