Arlington-area ex-attorney gets 20 years in prison
A disbarred attorney from the Arlington area who once worked as a municipal judge in Dallas will now spend 20 years in prison for falsely holding herself out to be a lawyer.
A Tarrant County jury pronounced a 10-year prison sentence from 46-year-old Tiffany Lynn Lewis, who also got another 10-year prison sentence from state District Judge Robb Catalano after revoking her probation.
Lewis was awarded 20-year prison sentence a day after she tried to persuade the jury to not to give her a lengthy sentence. The minimum sentence was just two years, but the jury awarded her the maximum of 20.
She was convicted of falsely holding herself out to be a lawyer by jury on Wednesday.
Attorney Leon Haley, as he questioned Lewis on Thursday, asked, "You had it all. You had the look, you had the clothes, and you had the car. How'd you let it all slip away from you?"
The State Bar of Texas cancelled Lewis' law license in April 2005 after she was found guilty of spending $78,000 settlement money that had been awarded to one of her clients in a 2003 probate case.
She worked as a municipal judge in Dallas but gave resignation in 2007 to circumvent disciplinary action by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. She pleaded guilty to the charges in September 2009.
