Route Proposal for Dallas-Houston Bullet Train revealed
The Texas Central Railways has shared the proposed route for the Dallas-Houston bullet train during a public meeting on Tuesday. The private project will reduce the travel time between Dallas and Houston to 90 minutes.
North Texas residents and leaders from Dallas favored with plan. The Texas Central Railways has also changed some of the stops for the bullet train.
Dallas City Council members Lee Kleinman and Vonciel Jones Hill favored for Union Station as North Texas terminus. During the meeting, Hill said, “We believe that high-speed rail is the biggest game changer in transportation since the federal highway system was established.”
The project will be developed by Texas High Speed Rail Company. The initial plans suggest stops at Loop 12 and 45 in Dallas. The company estimates suggest that nearly 3,000 acres of land will be required for the track and other developments. The 240-mile line will reduce the travel time between Houston and Dallas, which takes nearly four hours by highway.
If the project receives federal approval, the company officials expect the train to be running by 2021.
