Fired Catholic high school teacher may be carrying student’s child: Officials

A recently fired Catholic high school teacher in Austin, Minnesota, had been in sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student for several months and she may be carrying the student's child, according to felony charges.

Mary F. Gilles, 28, a former math teacher at Pacelli High School, has been charged with six counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. The charges have been filed due to boy's age.

According to the felony charges, Gilles indulged in sexual activity with her student at her rural home starting February this year. The sexual relationship halted during the summer but then restarted in September.

The boy said he used a condom during the four to five times he had sex with his teacher by June. After his return following summer break, he had sex twice in September.

Gilles also admitted that she and the boy had intercourse once a month. She also acknowledged that she was aware of the fact that the boy was just 17-year-old.

When police reviewed e-mails between the two, they found references indicating the former Catholic high school teacher possibly being pregnant.

Gilles was arrested at her home just northeast of Austin on Monday this week. She remains in Mower County jail in lieu of a bail of $60,000. She is facing up to 15 years in prison for each of the six counts of criminal sexual conduct.
