A 63 year old woman from the state of Maine is planning to kayak from the state to Guatemala, a journey that will test her physical and mental strength.
Deb Walters has already made several daring journeys in her kayak but this one is expected to be the longest. She will be leaving from Portland's East End Beach on 13 July, 2014 and is planning to travel the 2500 miles to Guatemala during the next one year.
Obama criticises Russia after Malaysia Airlines crash in Ukraine
President Barack Obama has criticised the Russian leadership after a Malaysian airline plane was reportedly shot down by a surface-to-air missile in eastern Ukraine.
He openly demanded that Russia should stop supporting separatists in eastern Ukraine. Obama said that he believes that the surface-to-air missilewas fired from rebel territory and this requires sanctions from the Russian government. One American was among those who died in the plane crash.
Maine’s media officer among Malaysia Airlines crash victims
A media official from Maine was among the 298 people aboard the Malaysia Airlines MH17 flight, who died when the aircraft crashed in eastern Ukraine.
The former Bangor University student was descried as "wonderful person and a great professional". Mr. Thomas was a student at Bangor University in the 1980s. The 49 year old was working as the media officer for the World Health Organisation. He was one of the more than 100 researchers, who were going to Australia to attend an international Aids conference in Australia.

Thanks to `Seeds of Peace', as teenagers from Israelis and Palestinians have been able to develop a very unlikely friendship with each other.
`Seeds of Peace' is a lakeside camp in rural Otisfield, Maine, happening in the U. S. that is having participants from these two countries - that have been at war for more than 20 years.
The teenagers from both the countries face similar situations when it comes to the fear of the violence raging overseas at their hometowns.

Some locals have suggested that racism might have played a part in the decision by the lawmakers in the state of Maine to limit Passamaquoddy Tribe's jurisdiction over elvers fishing. The decision also violated e Maine Indian Claims Settlement Act by acting without the tribe's consent.
A high level Commission has said in a report that Maine Legislature did not adhere to amendment process set forth in the Maine Indian Claims Settlement Act as it passed the laws on saltwater fishery matters without obtaining consent from the Passamaquoddy Tribe in 1998, 2013 and 2014.

Millie Rennie, who is the oldest women in the state of Maine, has fulfilled her wish to meet former President George H. W. Bush. She met him at Kennebunkport.
Rennie, who now lives in The Lodges Care Center in Springvale, was wishing to meet the former president for more than 20 years. She was prepared for some sort of surprise as residents gathered in the dining room on Tuesday but did not know what was going to happen. She was dressed well with a beautiful blue dress with sparkling beading on the top.

While billionaire venture capitalist Timothy Draper recently claimed he had garnered enough signatures to place his proposal to split California into six separate states on the ballot in November 2016; opponents of the plan don't believe that it would succeed.
