Downtown Fort Worth garages to stay free for public parking
Some Downtown Fort Worth parking garages will remain free for public parking on nights and weekends as two owners of garages have agreed to new terms, Councilman W. B. "Zim" Zimmerman announced.
Zimmerman, who chairs the board of Downtown Tax Increment Finance District, said that two owners of parking garages had reached agreements with the authorities. But, he added that didn't know the terms yet.
Metal storm drain covers stolen in Fort Worth
Reports have shown that metal storm drain covers are being stolen in west Fort Worth by thieves and leaving the drains open, leading to risk for commuters.
Residents noticed the missing covers on Monday morning and reported it to the authorities. When the officials arrived at the scene, they reported the issue to local police as several covers were missing in the area. Residents are confused as to who would steal 17 storm water grates and drain covers along Oak Hill Circle.
Parents abandon child at Houston post office
Authorities have said that someone abandoned an infant in the lobby of a southwest Houston post office. Child Protective Services have issued a notification after a new born baby was left at the post office. The infant was seen at the table at the Westbrae Post Office on S. Gessner and W. Bellfort on Wednesday morning.
The child was wearing white long sleeve onesie and a Pampers brand diaper. The name, Jesse was written by market on the diaper. The child was in a blue car seat and was wrapped in a black and red blanketwith white dog bones and lettering "woof".
Diaz supports all issues raised by Border Interfaith
Democrat Julio Diaz and Republican Andrew Haggerty participated in a candidate forum hosted by Border Interfaith and answered yes-or-no questions regarding a number of issues that the host finds important for its social justice and family agenda.
In the forum organized at St. Francis on the Hill Episcopal Church in West El Paso on Sunday, Diaz agreed with Border Interfaith on all six issues, including greater regulation of payday lenders, offering county employee a "livable wage" and boosting wages to $10 per hour now and $15 in the future.
Texas man accidentally shoots & kills younger brother
A South Texas man accidentally shot and killed his younger brother last Sunday when he removed his handgun from the holster and it discharged, police officials said.
The 24-year-old man and his 16-year-old brother, whose names have not been released by authorities, were watching TV in a back apartment of their home in the 3800 block of Reynosa Street. The older brother was taking out his 9 mm pistol from the holster, when it unintentionally discharged striking the younger brother in the chest.
Reward for missing Plano woman increased to $25,000
The reward for any information about Christina Morris and the person who might be responsible for her disappearance has been increased to $25,000, the Plano Police Department announced.
The police department announced that an anonymous donor has contributed $15,000 to reward fund Crime Stoppers, raising it from $10,000 to $25,000.
The missing woman's sister, Sarah Estes, said her family was grateful for the generous individual who contributed to fund. She expressed hope that the bigger reward would bring forth promising information about her missing sister.
Bellevue man demands Arlington burial for buffalo soldier
The remains of buffalo soldier Sgt. Emanuel Stance, a Medal of Honor recipient, should be exhumed and laid to rest at the country’s most prestigious burial ground in Arlington, 75-year-old James Nelson of Bellevue demanded.
The headstone of Sgt. Stance has stood in Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Neb., for more than a century. The site is nearly 1,400 miles from Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
Worshipers hold Sunday service in parking lot
Parishioners of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church that was destroyed by a fire last week have found a way to hold Sunday service. The church's congregation held yesterday's service in a parking lot.
The new location for Sunday service is not far from the destroyed church. Minister Kris Atkinson said that the fire could not shake their faith and that they were looking at a new beginning.
Speaking on the topic, Atkinson said, "We're looking at a new beginning, truly a new beginning. We see the remains of the church, but the real church is behind me worshipping on this morning."
