The Surgeons at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC carried out an extremely uncommon surgery of quadruple organ transplant of an eight year old girl, Kyree Beachem, in November 2015. The Pennsylvania-kid is being treated for Hirschprung's Disease, in which the child is born with missing nerve cells from colon and the child faces difficulty in the digestion of food.

Researchers conducted a decade long study in US and discovered that people who consumed coffee everyday showed less chances of dying due to many causes, like heart disease and diabetes, in comparison to the ones who didn't consume coffee at all.

The more was the consumption of coffee, the lower was the study participants’ risk of dying, and similar pattern was shown by decaf drinkers.

A drug which has been used to treat patients battling with HIV is now being used in a program to help HIV-positive patients to prevent the spread of the infection. Using the drug, Truvada, patients are better able to prevent the infection, found researchers.

Some doctors use the program, called pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), to help individuals who are at high risk of getting infected with the HIV. It has been found that when patients took Truvada, they were able to prevent the infection.

Six year low in gas prices will offer more savings to Americans on their energy bills.

Full Moon to brighten night sky before Christmas Day 2015

This year’s Christmas will be different from most others as a rare full Moon will brighten the night sky before the Sun rises on Christmas Day 2015.

As Santa and his reindeer will be busy in delivering gifts on Christmas Eve, the rare full Moon will be shining overnight. It is going to be the first full Moon on Christmas Day since the year of 1977.

According to astronomers with American space agency NASA, the Moon will reach its peak size, which is called perigee by scientists, at 5:11 a.m. central or 6:11 a.m. eastern time on Christmas Day.

The silica has been found in high concentrations. Adding to that, Curiosity has also found a mineral, which is even very rare on earth and never seen before on Mars, the space agency added. The mineral named tridymite has been discovery by the rover while drilling into a rock called ‘Buckskin’.

NASA’s Cassini probe is all Set to Make Final Flyby of Saturn’s Enceladus Moon

NASA’s unmanned spacecraft Cassini is all set to whiz past sixth-largest moon of Saturn Enceladus this weekend. It will be probe’s final close flyby of the ocean-bearing moon, NASA said.

Cassini, which entered orbit around Saturn in 2004, will make the flyby at a distance of about 3,106 miles, or 4,999 kilometers, on December 19 at about 9:49 am, as per the US space agency. It will be probe’s final close pass, but it will continue to keep a watch on the natural satellite at a much greater distance, NASA revealed.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended a ban on the use of indoor tanning beds in the United States for those below the age of 18 years. The recommendation has been made in an effort to cut the risk for skin cancer that arises due to indoor tanning practices. Medical researchers have been studying indoor tanning extensively over past decades.
