Humpback whales slow to return to Hawaii waters this winter

The month of December typically marks the start of humpback whale season in Hawaii, but experts say the gigantic marine creatures are slow to return this year.

Officials at the Humpback Whale Marine Sanctuary said is a statement that the humpback whales have been difficult to spot so far this year.

It may be noted here that the giant humpback whales are an iconic part of Hawaii islands’ warm waters in winter and generate a significant source of income from tourists who visit the islands to see the huge marine creatures.

Military Installations throughout Hawaii Prohibit Sale of Tobacco to Individuals under Age 21

Military installation through Hawaii has issued orders to ban the sale of tobacco to individuals who are below the age of 21. The new rule will be implemented from the New Year’s Day.

The new rule coincides with a similar measure passed by the Hawaii legislature in June that will also come into effect on Friday. After this new rule, Hawaii will become the first state to ban the sale and possession of tobacco to individual under-21. The ban even includes the sale and possession of e-cigarettes, according to the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids.

The dengue outbreak seems to have stopped growing in Hawaii as no new cases have been reported since Christmas, the state’s public health authorities said on Tuesday.

As per the Hawaii State Department of Health, a total of 181 cases of dengue fever had been confirmed between early September and 15th of December, with just a couple of patients considered contagious as of December 28.

The group’s state-by-state has illuminated stark differences in the rates of diseases, behaviors and public health investments in the US states. The rankings are vital as officials do consider them before they come with programs to address certain health issues including obesity and smoking.
