iPhone 7 rumors suggest radical design changes and waterproof smartphone from Apple

Apple releases new models for iPhone every year and months before launch of a new model, media reports start surfacing about the features the company would add in the newer model. Apple has till date surprised technology experts and customers by offering amazing features in each major model release. And, with each major release, Apple has grabbed a bigger market share in the high-end smartphone segment. New report published by Forbes talks about three major features that we could see in Apple’s iPhone 7.

A report published in DigiTimes from South Korea has cited Chinese-language Commercial Times in recent news about Taiwan-based Catcher Technology which supplies smartphone cases to Apple and many other electronics giants. Catcher Technology is the largest smartphone chassis supplier for Apple iPhones. The report claims that Apple’s next iPhone model will be water-proof. Additionally, the report suggests that it will use new compound materials to hide the antenna.

The Commercial Times report said, “Although iPhone's shipments are expected to drop 30% sequentially in the first quarter of 2016, Catcher's consolidated revenues from non-Apple clients, which account for about 40% of its overall sales, will continue to grow thanks to these clients' new products for the first half of 2016.”

Apple iPhone 6S and 6S Plus models are virtually water-proof. However, the company engineers are working hard to make iPhone 7 completely waterproof (at least the report suggests so).

As the Commercial Times report suggests, Apple could also do away with antenna stripes in iPhone 7. Apple was granted a patent for ‘Non-capacitive or radio-frequency-transparent materials with anodized metal appearance’ in June 2015.

The report also indicates that Apple could be using new composite materials for iPhone 7. The new iPhone could be the thinnest ever launched by the company.

Apple Insider report suggests that iPhone 7 will have an ultra-thin body with thickness between between 6mm and 6.5mm. It could feature 3D touch and upgraded "A10" SoC, "M10" motion coprocessor.

This is just the start of the guessing game. We will continue reporting about the latest rumors around iPhone 7 as and when they surface online. There are many media outlets that track Apple’s suppliers to get more details about plants of the company for its next smartphone.

As per the past records for major releases, Apple usually launches its new model in September. We still have nine months to wait for the next smartphone from Apple.
